Alex Morgan, the San Diego Wave FC forward, is officially on the U.S. Women’s National Team roster for the 2024 Concacaf W Gold Cup. She’s replacing forward Mia Fishel, who suffered a torn ACL during training. This begs the question: Is Alex Morgan Playing? The answer is a resounding yes.
Alex Morgan Replaces Injured Mia Fishel

Her accolades include two-time U.S. Soccer Female Athlete of the Year (2012, 2018) and four-time Concacaf Player of the Year (2013, 2016, 2017, 2018). With Fishel’s unfortunate injury, Morgan steps in to fill a crucial role in the team’s Gold Cup campaign.
Morgan to Wear Number Seven
Due to tournament rules, Morgan will wear the number seven jersey, originally assigned to Fishel. She’s already on the game roster for the opening match against the Dominican Republic at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
USWNT’s Gold Cup Schedule
The USWNT’s Group A matches will all be held at Dignity Health Sports Park:
- February 20: vs. Dominican Republic
- February 23: vs. Argentina
- February 26: vs. Mexico

Tournament Format and San Diego Wave FC’s Upcoming Season
The top two teams from each group, plus the two best third-place teams, advance to the knockout stage. Quarterfinals are at BMO Stadium in Los Angeles on March 2nd and 3rd. Semifinals and the final will be at Snapdragon Stadium in San Diego on March 6th and 10th. The seeding for the quarterfinals will be determined by group stage standings. Meanwhile, San Diego Wave FC starts their season on March 15th against NY/NJ Gotham, followed by their home opener on March 23rd at Snapdragon Stadium.
