Can Alexa Control My Thermostat? Troubleshooting Wyze Thermostat Connectivity

My Wyze thermostat has been experiencing connectivity issues, specifically with its connection to the internet and subsequently, Alexa. While I can control the thermostat locally via the Wyze app on my phone, the app indicates the thermostat is offline, and Alexa control is unavailable. This issue has occurred twice now, each time requiring a hard reset of the thermostat to restore functionality.

Initially, the thermostat functioned perfectly for a week. Then, the Wyze app displayed a “not connected to the internet” icon. My Wi-Fi network was functioning normally, and other devices connected without issue. The thermostat, located less than 15 feet from a mesh router, showed a strong Wi-Fi signal (3 bars). Upon resetting the thermostat, it acquired a new IP address, despite my router using DHCP.

The same problem recurred this week: local control via the Wyze app worked, but the internet connection was lost, preventing Alexa integration. Another hard reset resolved the issue temporarily. I’ve now reserved a static IP address for the thermostat on my router to see if this prevents future occurrences. However, I suspect the issue lies elsewhere, as the thermostat maintains a local Wi-Fi connection even when the internet connection drops.

I’ve submitted logs to Wyze support but haven’t received a response yet. I hypothesize that the thermostat might be using one IP address for local Wi-Fi communication and requesting a different temporary IP address or port for external connections, such as Alexa. Perhaps this process conflicts with certain router DHCP configurations.

For those experiencing different Wi-Fi connectivity problems with the Wyze Thermostat, I previously documented a solution to a setup issue after a reset in this forum post: Thermostat not connecting to cloud, now won’t setup after reset – #3 by vtester. Hopefully, Wyze will address the current internet connectivity problem soon so that Alexa integration remains stable.
