During their time in Japan, Alexa’s symptoms worsened. She experienced debilitating fatigue, cold sweats, nosebleeds, mouth sores, and shortness of breath. Simple activities like walking became increasingly difficult.
“Walking breaks would be 30 minutes and I told Elvis, which is so not me, that I would rather take a taxi, subway, or coaster then walk,” she shared with Modern Parenting. Her condition deteriorated further upon their return to Manila.
After experiencing severe vomiting and a complete loss of appetite, Alexa’s energy levels plummeted. Simple tasks like climbing stairs left her feeling nauseous. Upon returning to Manila, Elvis immediately rushed her to the hospital. Tests revealed a shockingly high white blood cell count of 295,000, significantly higher than the normal range of 10,000. The diagnosis: Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
