Alexa Won’t Connect to My Wyze Thermostat: Troubleshooting Guide

My Wyze thermostat was working perfectly for a week, but then I noticed an icon indicating it was disconnected from the internet in my Wyze app. Even though my WiFi was working fine and I could control the thermostat from my phone, it wouldn’t connect to the internet or Alexa. A hard reset of the thermostat temporarily fixed the issue, and I observed that it obtained a new IP address after restarting. I use DHCP on my router, and the IP address for the thermostat hadn’t changed before. The WiFi signal strength to the thermostat is strong (3 bars) as it’s located less than 15 feet from my mesh router, so WiFi connectivity itself shouldn’t be the problem.

This week, the same issue recurred – WiFi is functional, but the Wyze app reports no internet connection, and Alexa can’t connect either. I performed another hard reset to restore the connection. To see if it helps, I’ve now set a static IP address reservation for the thermostat on my router. However, I’m skeptical that this will solve the problem since WiFi access continues to work when the issue occurs. I’ve already submitted my logs to Wyze support but haven’t received a response yet.

I suspect the thermostat might use separate IP addresses or ports for local WiFi access and for connecting to Alexa and the internet cloud services. Perhaps the IP address or port used for cloud connectivity isn’t working well with certain router DHCP configurations.
